About Us

For two decades, the work of the Strategic Literacy Initiative has been supported by a broad range of private foundations and by winning competitive federal research grants. This steady support has allowed us to develop and disseminate Reading Apprenticeship tools, materials, and professional development that is both research-based and research-validated. It has also allowed us to contribute to the fields of adolescent literacy and teacher professional development through our research and publications.

“We don’t have the luxury of experimenting. So Reading Apprenticeship has really got us looking at the data. We are seeing a huge benefit in our classrooms, from our learning support students all the way up to the gifted students.”

—Harley Ramsey, High School Principal
